About Ghana
Ghana, formerly known as the Gold Coast, is a rapidly-developing country in West Africa, and a key member of ECOWAS (Economic Council of West African States). It has a rich history stretching back thousands of years. Attracted by an abundance of gold, Arab traders brought spices through trade routes across the Sahara Desert, and after 1471, Europeans began trading for gold by the sea. Ghana was a British colony until achieving independence in 1957.
